My sister-in-law, Deb, emailed me this concoction that is supposed to bring labor on faster and that she and her friends swear by. It has worked for like 30 of her friends and twice for Deb: 1.5 C chocolate ice cream 2 Tbsp castor oil 1 raw egg (super fresh, best if bought the day of) Whipped cream (enough to make a shake-like consistancy) Blend it all together and drink (or spoon) it down. It's actually not that bad! I'll let you know how i fare....
We are playing the waiting game now. I am only37 weeks(tomorrow) and was fine just settling in for the next three weeks...until my doctor's appt on Friday. He checked me and discovered that I am90% effaced and 3 centimeters dilated! I know that this shouldn't send me racing for the delivery room or anything, but this news paired with scattered contractions and immense pressure in my pelvis has us feeling downright antsy. Doc says she is healthy and ready so there is no reason she couldn't be here whenever. I wish I could un-hear that but I can't. We've gone for walks, eaten spicy food, I've even drank raspberry leaf tea (nasty, nasty stuff). None of that 'oh, I'll miss feeling her in my tummy' for me. Nope, I want her out here in my arms. We are ready! C'mon Babygirl, show us your scrunchy pink face and gangly legs! We are ready! I ate two big bowls of spaghetti tonight. Maybe that'll force her out. Does sitting or rolling on a medicine ball really work?....
The water retention has finally made its debut. That is why, in my girl's weekend pictures, I look like I have a marshmallow in each cheek (thus the title of this post. Remember that game where you had to stuff your cheeks and say 'chubby bunny?' :). Jack had to pry my engagement ring off my finger yesterday, my ankle bones have gone missing, and this morning my thumb ring had to go. Because the though of having either stuck on my fingers and not being able to pull them off gives me the willies. Is it possible for a girl's nose to get expand while she's preg? I swear mine has. Anyway, that, combined with the back pressure and sore ribs, has driven me to the decision that for these last four weeks or so I will not be a fan of public places. I can no longer wear anything but maternity clothes, but am much more comfortable just being at home and wearing Jack's clothes so going out will probably now only consist of trips to Rumbi or Cafe Rio and the occasional matinee movie. We saw Bridesmaids today at 11am in an empty theater and laughed about it because once Babygirl is here, that will be our usual movie time in case she gets unhappy and loud. ps. I definitely know where my sciatic nerve is now. Yowza.
My best girlfriends and I got together this weekend just to hang out before Babygirl comes. Clar and I drove down to St George and stayed in a hotel with Tash and Kassi. We spent two days getting pedicures, playing games, eating at our favorite places, and lounging by the pool. It's not easy having hot friends when you are 8 months pregnant, especially in public, but what do you do :) I LOVE my friends, they are the most supportive, fun, amazing girls I know and we had a fantastic weekend!
Things I recommend: - Churros from Costco. I have a thing for churros and I have tried them at a LOT of places. Costco is hands-down the best. They are huge and only a dollar. Make sure you eat it warm though! -Revisiting favorite TV shows. I know most people don't buy whole seasons like we do, but I know Netflix has tons available. It is so fun to go back to season 1 of a favorite show and watch it all over again, especially if you dropped off somewhere in the middle and need to catch up. We just watched Grey's Anatomy and Nurse Jackie all over and to catch up, it's nice because if you don't have tons of time it's less of a commitment to watch an episode of something than a two-hour movie. - Thiscolor-coded Wahl clipper with attachments. It's only $22 at Walmart and super fun and easy, the different lengths are color coded! My mom is a cosmetologist and she swears by Wahl. I just got one and buzzed Jack's hair for summer. Handsome dude. :) - The Big Kahuna burger from Rumbi Island Grill. Oh man. It's got pineapple and teriyaki sauce on and the freshest bun ever. Only get it with one patty though, cause who needs the extra cholesterol? ;) - KSL classifieds. We just got the $170 Chicco carseat we wanted for $80 on KSL! - Taking the time often to list things you are really really grateful for and that make your life better, and taking every chance to thank God for them. Mine today are: 1) Clean sheets. Those who know me know that I am really particular about my bed and bedding. I laid in bed last night and thought about those who sleep on a mat on a dirt floor every night or in the streets or a park bench. I suddenly felt that much more comfortable in my own bed (despite the extra bowling ball on my body). 2) My body. I have to remind myself of this one a lot because it is easy to get frustrated or down on myself when I feel so big and abnormal; but the truth is, I am making another person! We were able to conceive with no problems and I am able to grow and nourish a baby without any major problems. Way to go bod! 3) Safety. I am able to be in my home with my husband and not feel the fear of natural disasters, evil people, or even contention from my own spouse. I can lock out the bad, set the alarm, and sleep soundly at night. Sorry, long-winded.
from Jack :) it is my favorite one and now I can feel all stylish at church with the other moms and their PPB bags. I feel like it's 5th grade again and I just got a shiny lunch box to bring to school so I can sit at lunch with the other girls and fit in- maybe this will be my golden ticket to a playgroup haha. Funny how as much as things change as we get older, how much they stay the same ;)
Thank you everyone who came and for all of the thoughtful gifts! It was such a fun shower, decorated in yellow and white with yummy food and a baby prediction game to see who can guess the most correct answers about Babygirl's birth stats, physical traits, and disposition (whether she'll take after me or Jack). The winner gets a prize sent to them after she's born and we tally up the results :) Let me know if you want to participate and I'll email you a prediction sheet to fill out!
